Job title: Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO)

About the Role The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) will conduct required site and safety analyses, perform observations, and prepare and implement health and safety plans for environmental and engineering projects. The role acts as the onsite safety representative for the duration of contracts and serves as the SSHO contact to conduct site and safety analyses and observations, evaluate results, and ensure regulatory compliance.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and implement health and safety plans for environmental and engineering projects.
• Act as onsite safety representative for the duration of a given contract.
• Serve as SSHO contact to conduct site and safety analysis and observations.
• Evaluate results and make recommendations to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
• Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log with area inspected, date, hazards, corrective actions, and correction dates.
• Conduct tailgate safety meetings (weekly or daily as applicable).
• Attach safety inspection logs to the contractors’ daily quality control report.
• Conduct mishap investigations and complete required reports.
• Investigate and resolve health and safety deficiencies.
• Maintain paper and electronic records for equipment, funds, supplies, and other property records.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum of five years of relevant experience overseeing health and safety operations in conjunction with environmental investigation and remediation projects.
• EM385-1-1 certification and training; OSHA and CHST certifications.
• USACE EM 385-1-1 certification; CHST; 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety (within last 5 years); 40-hour HAZWOPER.
• CSP may be accepted in place of other certifications on a case-by-case basis.
• US citizenship and ability to pass DoD security checks; current CPR/First-Aid certification; competent person training as needed; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical ability, self-motivation, problem-solving, and moderate stress tolerance.

Nice to Have

• CSP may be accepted in place of other certifications on a case-by-case basis.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
