Job title: Site HSE Officer

About the Role Site HSE Officer is mobilised to one of our construction work sites in Canada. The incumbent will support our teams in ensuring a safe work environment and will work as part of a site team including Site Manager, Supervisors, Quality Assurance Specialist and Administrator. Role involves a mix of site office documentation and on-site activities to ensure full compliance of projects.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure fulfillment of HSE requirements at the construction site in line with the HSE plan, company standards, customer requirements and government regulations
  • Support Site Manager for HSE management and safety instruction implementation for workers and partners
  • Serve as the main local liaison with customer HSE organization and provincial regulatory agencies
  • Prepare weekly and monthly HSE statistics reports; assist in implementing/updating HSE plan; identify risks and define control measures; conduct safe work procedures and Job Safety Analysis
  • Perform safety checks and inspections; participate in toolbox talks; coordinate safety committee; record and investigate accidents/incidents and perform root cause analysis
  • Coordinate health, safety, and environmental aspects of site activities; provide site-specific training; coordinate safety training on site; coordinate First Aid, responders and Fire Protection programs
  • Propose immediate correction of HSE deficiencies; verify effectiveness of corrections; ensure OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and COR programs are maintained at site
  • Support internal audits and coordinate external audits; coordinate Workers Compensation; collaborate with HSE Advisor for HSE Management System updates

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in HSE management on construction sites or heavy industries
  • University degree in Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Provincial Construction Safety legislation
  • Experience dealing with unionized environments
  • Experience on construction sites (hydro power plant experience asset)
  • Strong communication skills (spoken and written) at all levels
  • Leadership, teamwork, and alignment with company goals
  • Proven auditor and trainer skills; strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, good judgment, initiative and creativity
  • Willingness to travel and flexibility with work schedule

Nice to Have

  • Experience working on hydroelectric power projects
  • Day shift schedule (5 days per week) and accommodation provided locally at Shawinigan site
