About this role

Job title: Silicon Photonic Design Engineer

About the Role Marvell is seeking a Silicon Photonic Design Engineer to develop silicon photonics-based optical engines and components for next-generation AI and data center infrastructure. The role focuses on designing, simulating, and tape-out of photonic ICs, and contributing to tool development in a collaborative, international environment.

What You'll Do

  • Simulate and design active and passive photonic integrated components, circuits and high-bandwidth photonic systems
  • Translate device operational specifications into mask layouts
  • Drive tape-out activities including layout verification, DRC, and documentation
  • Contribute to software development and maintenance for simulation and mask layout tools, including PDK
  • Testing and characterization of resulting components, qualification of components/integrated circuits
  • Analyze and interpret measurement data, comparing experimental results with simulations to optimize device performance
  • Root cause and failure analysis of components and integrated circuits

What We're Looking For

  • Master’s degree and/or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in a relevant research or engineering environment; industry experience in a high-tech environment is a plus
  • Strong understanding of silicon photonics, semiconductor physics, optical component design, fabrication, and testing
  • Strong background in optical communications or high-frequency electrical/electro-optical characterization (>40 GHz) is a plus
  • Hands-on experience in photonic device characterization and testing in a development environment; high-speed testing background preferred
  • In-depth experience in at least two of the following areas: Photonic electromagnetic field simulations (Lumerical preferred); RF PCB design and RF electromagnetic field simulation (HFSS preferred); Code-based mask layout design for photonic ICs (Synopsys preferred), including experience with external PDKs, libraries, and DRC; Design and tape-out experience with multiple foundries is a plus
  • Proactive, self-starting energy; ownership mindset; ability to pivot with changing priorities; ability to translate complex topics for diverse audiences; strong team-player with global collaboration
