Job title: Signaling Design Specialist - Senior

About the Role We are hiring a Signaling Design Specialist - Senior for our Toronto office to lead the design and assurance of signaling solutions in CBTC projects. The role focuses on system design, signaling design, analysis, modelling, and simulation to meet customer requirements and deliver compliant, safe and reliable signaling solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Perform system design, signaling design, analysis, modelling, and simulation to specify communication-based train control systems.
  • Develop and define system, subsystems, and data requirements; create block design, interlocking control tables, and application databases for software subsystems.
  • Analyze and evaluate system performance; prepare technical contract deliverables.
  • Mentor junior signaling engineers and provide guidance on complex topics.
  • Collaborate with Software, Hardware, and IVVQ groups; work under the technical supervision of the System/Signaling Design Lead.
  • Ensure signaling design adherence to applicable standards and signaling principles; embed safety considerations early in the design process.
  • Support bids and proposals through customer requirements assessment, trade studies, simulations, and architecture design; present findings to customers and management.
  • Deliver project data such as guideway application data, signal plans, track maps, and interfaces to software groups.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Systems, Electrical, Computer) or closely related field.
  • 4–10 years of experience developing software-based system applications.
  • Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, SDLC, and related tools.
  • Medium-level expertise in URS (Urban Rail Signaling) Systems; minimum 5 years on systems of similar complexity.
  • Intermediate level of expertise in the CBTC domain.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and communication skills; excellent technical writing and presentation abilities.
  • Rail signaling knowledge; ability to mentor other engineers.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with DOORS, Polarion, Melody Advance, or other system design and requirement management tools.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience developing or reviewing databases used for software development.
  • Experience developing or reviewing test scenarios and procedures to validate database implementations.
  • Additional rail signaling domain knowledge and hands-on project experience.
