About the Role Join Sonoco as a Shift Supervisor in Columbus, OH to oversee a production department, drive safety, quality, and efficiency, and support plant objectives. You will supervise staff, coordinate training, and ensure compliance with safety, SQF food safety guidelines, SOPs, and environmental regulations. What You'll Do
- Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures, and maintains a safe work environment, including correcting unsafe acts/conditions, attending daily safety meetings, conducting monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents as required.
- Supports and follows SQF guidelines of the food safety system.
- Supervises and coordinates department/production activities to meet safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping standards.
- Coordinates and conducts on-the-job training and development of subordinates’ skills for high production levels.
- Facilitates communications between crew operations and management; maintains production, spoilage, and downtime records.
- Leads problem solving sessions to address production, quality, and safety issues.
- Monitors machine parts and supplies for production equipment as needed to maintain machinery.
- Evaluates products to ensure compliance with quality standards and reviews production schedules to optimize output.
- Furnishes work orders and schedules for maintenance corrective action; initiates and reviews SOPs and JSPs for area of responsibility.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within the department and plant location.
- Understands EC directions during emergencies and is familiar with emergency procedures, equipment, and systems; implements contingency plans as needed.
- Understands, completes, and maintains environmental documentation; reports status to EC, EFP, or EM.
- Identifies waste streams and minimizes waste through proper material use, disposal and segregation; complies with environmental waste handling regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- This position is located at our Columbus, Ohio facility. What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience with LEAN practices (5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, etc.) and problem solving.
- Broad experience typical of manufacturing plant work; knowledge of supervisory practices.
- Ability to evaluate, select, and adapt standard plant production techniques.
- Proficient in implementing 5S principles for efficient workplace organization and process optimization.
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially; operate and use computers; analyze and interpret statistical data; perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to meet deadlines, concentrate, and pay attention to detail; effectively lead and train other employees.
- Ability to wear PPE and follow safety practices.
- Required to work a 12-hour shift schedule (Mon-Sun); overtime or on-call as directed by management.
- Broad training in a related field via college degree or equivalent experience; 2+ years of job-related experience. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $93,600 - $105,300 annually, plus a quarterly target bonus of 12.5% of base salary.
