Job title: Senior Workers' Compensation Claims Examiner - Federal Claims
About the Role Senior Workers' Compensation Claims Examiner – Federal Claims focusing on Defense Base Act claims within the Federal jurisdiction. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in handling and investigating complex claims and to contribute to proactive, best-practice claims handling in line with AIG quality standards. You will work with internal and external stakeholders to deliver fair, timely, and cost-effective settlements.
What You'll Do
- Utilize investigation, claim handling, litigation, and negotiation skills to ensure timely cost-effective claim settlements and protect recovery rights when applicable.
- Provide prompt effective customer service to differentiate AIG from our competitors.
- Proactively identify and review suspect/fraudulent claims – dealing with such claims in line with our guidelines.
- Maintain regular contact with internal stakeholders and brokers, medical experts, clients’ lawyers, injured workers or their legal representatives, building effective relationships with internal and external customers.
- Grow your experience by supporting Team Managers and deputizing in their absence; monitor market practices and provide mentoring and technical guidance to Claim Representatives.
- Leverage claims experience to help improve our products in collaboration with underwriting.
What We're Looking For
- Knowledge of legal/regulatory and litigation/procedural requirements for Workers' Compensation claims.
- Specialist knowledge of Defense Base Act claims preferred.
- Proven experience in settlement evaluation and negotiation.
- Policy language skills enabling accurate and consistent policy wording interpretation.
- Lateral thinking and the ability to problem solve and develop new ideas to improve working practices.
- Strong communication, time management, administrative and report-writing skills.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range for Illinois positions: $73,000-$96,000 per year, with eligibility for a bonus under the applicable incentive plan.
