About the Role Wide Eye is seeking freelance/contract web engineers to join project teams as integrated engineers. The role focuses on building accessible, modern web experiences, including front-end development and WordPress plugin/theme work, within an agency setting. You’ll participate in sprint cycles and collaborate with clients and designers as part of a project team.

What You'll Do

• Serve as an integrated engineer on client projects, working within a sprint cycle on a project team.
• Develop front-end features using HTML5, SCSS/CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React.js, plus WordPress plugin/theme development (PHP, MySQL, Gutenberg/React, WP REST API).
• Collaborate with designers (Figma/Illustrator) and content teams to deliver accessible, responsive experiences aligned with UX and information architecture.
• Set up and participate in CI/CD workflows (Composer, Webpack, NPM/Node.js, Lando, Docker, Github Actions).
• Write clean, maintainable code; adhere to PHPCS/ESLint/Prettier and accessibility standards.
• Communicate effectively with clients and team members; translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Bring curiosity, creativity, and pride to deliver high-quality results.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years of experience in web development.
• Extensive front-end experience with HTML5, SCSS/CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, PHP, and React.js.
• Extensive WordPress plugin and theme development experience (PHP, MySQL, JS/TS, Gutenberg/React, WP REST API).
• Experience with DevOps: Web Servers, DNS, CDNs, security and performance management.
• Experience with CI pipelines and related tools: Composer, Webpack, NPM/Node.js, Lando, Docker, Github Actions.
• Working knowledge of code style tools (PHPCS, ESLint, Prettier).
• Knowledge of responsive development, progressive enhancement; strong accessibility, UX, IA, and social media awareness.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
• Exceptional attention to detail; highly creative and resourceful.
• Bonus: production experience with TS/JS full-stack frameworks (Next.js, Remix, Gatsby, etc.; strong TS preference); agency/client experience; agile environment; interest in progressive politics and social change; CRM experience (Blue State Digital, NGP VAN, ActionKit, Action Network).

Nice to Have

• Production experience with one or more TypeScript/JavaScript full-stack frameworks (Next.js, Remix, Gatsby, etc.).
• Experience working directly with clients in an agency setting.
• Experience working in an agile environment.
• Interest in progressive politics and social change.
• CRM experience with Blue State Digital, NGP VAN, ActionKit, Action Network.
