Job title: Senior Underwriting Specialist, Corporate Accounts Excess Casualty
About the Role The Senior Underwriting Specialist, Corporate Accounts, Excess Casualty will contribute to a market-leading underwriting team and help drive growth for excess casualty business. This role includes leading a team of underwriters, guiding strategic initiatives, and building strong broker and client relationships to profitably grow the book of business.
What You'll Do
- Exercise judgment, negotiate, and make sound business decisions with increased authority
- Lead and manage the work of a team of underwriters; ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines for rating, pricing, profitability, and structuring
- Assist underwriters in executing on strategic initiatives; provide support and develop solutions (systems, guidelines, training, reports, new project requests, product amendments)
- Collaborate with Distribution, Territory Managers, and other line(s) of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross-sell opportunities from brokers
- Utilize daily reports and monitor adherence to underwriting requirements and guidelines to oversee the assigned book of business
- Stay abreast of developments in assigned territories to determine their effect on current accounts and potential new business opportunities
- Work with management, the Insured, its broker and outside counsel on contract terms and conditions, as well as pricing, terms & conditions, and deal structure for complex risks
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business
- Identify the need for and manage special underwriting projects as needed
- Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 7-9 years of Commercial Insurance Company, Agency or Brokerage experience
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships
- Advanced working knowledge of NA Casualty lines including product features, forms, regulatory environments and risks (e.g., Environmental, Excess or Primary Casualty, NA Auto, WC, AL, GL, DBA, Foreign Casualty)
- Demonstrated sales, marketing, and relationship-building experience
- Very strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly motivated and results-oriented
- Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions
- Willingness to be flexible, learn on the job, and maintain a can-do attitude
- Expert with underwriting analytical tools and technology
- In-person collaboration as a vital part of culture; team members are primarily in the office, four days per week (hybrid arrangement)
