About the Role

Senior Property & Casualty Underwriter to join our Birmingham Branch, responsible for developing and managing new business submissions, quotes, and binds, while leveraging broker partnerships to deliver tailored insurance solutions and profitable growth.

What You'll Do

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business across products.

  • Underwrite and negotiate moderate to complex risks to minimise risk and maximise profitability, including Mid Term Adjustments (MTAs).

  • Proactively manage your portfolio, targeting new business and retention while achieving KPIs.

  • Identify and capture opportunities to write additional lines of business.

  • Proactively utilise technology platforms to quote and bind risk efficiently.

  • Prepare, lead and present Underwriting Reviews for policies or portfolios and manage action points.

  • Cultivate relationships with internal partners and cross-sell opportunities.

  • Maintain relationships with brokers via various channels to market Travelers products and write/retain accounts within risk appetite; travel to meetings as required.

  • Develop and execute pipeline plans and support the renewal team in retention aligned with sales plans.

  • Train and mentor less experienced underwriters; support more junior team members.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • What We're Looking For

  • A Levels or similar qualification.

  • Deep knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for underwriting, product marketing, and decision-making.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities with brokers.

  • Demonstrated inclusion and collaboration across diverse teams.

  • Leadership experience coaching and mentoring others.

  • Experience in industry/competitor analysis and project management.

  • Ability to manage projects involving complex analysis and regulatory changes.

  • Nice to Have

  • Mentoring or coaching experience for junior staff beyond routine duties.

  • Track record of cross-functional collaboration and broker relationship management.
