Job title: Senior Underwriter Marine
About the Role A Senior Underwriter Marine will join Sompo's French Marine Underwriting team, based in Paris, reporting to the Head of Marine for France. The role focuses on developing and expanding client and broker relationships and driving profitable growth in line with local, regional and global strategies.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to growth and profitability of the Sompo Marine portfolio by actively sourcing submissions.
- Analyze submissions, policy wordings, and technical reports to assess exposures and ensure appropriate terms and conditions per underwriting strategy.
- Meet and negotiate with clients and brokers to build relationships and secure new and renewal business.
- Build a well-diversified, balanced book in terms of risk profile and segmentation; perform contract negotiations and travel to client meetings as needed.
- Ensure underwriting document filings, data entry accuracy, and contract integrity; interact with Distribution, Claims, and Risk Engineering.
- Support marketing efforts with high-quality solutions to enhance Sompo's market presence; participate in industry forums and commercial negotiations to raise Sompo's profile.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of experience underwriting Marine Cargo in France; Marine Hull experience and cargo/commodities underwriting are strong pluses.
- Deep technical knowledge of Marine exposures; strong expertise in international Large Corporate risks underwriting (international programs and captive fronting).
- Excellent network within the French broker and in-house risk manager community; strong interpersonal and communication skills; high integrity; team-oriented with entrepreneurial mindset.
- Good understanding of the French insurance regulatory environment and its impact on business development, underwriting and claims management;
- Language: English and French; willingness to travel internationally.
Nice to Have
- Experience in Marine Hull underwriting; additional exposure to cargo/commodities underwriting.
