About the Role Senior Underwriter Financial Lines Germany will contribute to growth of a well-diversified Financial Lines portfolio. Located in Cologne, Munich or Hamburg, you will manage underwriting and client relationships to drive profitability.

What You'll Do

• Independently manage and process a portfolio of Financial Lines contracts, analyzing underwriting information and creating offers with appropriate terms and conditions to achieve expected profitability.
• Conduct independent contract negotiations, participate in client meetings, and deliver presentations to clients and brokers as part of policy renewals.
• Maintain existing client and broker relationships and develop new business opportunities in the German and Austrian markets.
• Contribute to underwriting strategy development and monitor local market and product developments.
• Support development, introduction and modification of own products/product versions, including monitoring the local market.
• Engage in proactive sales activities with brokers, in-house brokers and clients, and participate in Financial Lines events to promote Sompo brand and increase submissions.
• Cross-sell with other Sompo International Specialty Lines products, identifying insurance needs arising from insured transactions.
• Support the Head of Financial Lines Germany in technical training and supervision of (Associate) Underwriters in the team.

What We're Looking For

• Recognized qualification in law, business and/or finance.
• 5 to 10 years of professional experience in the insurance industry, with at least 5 years in Financial Lines.
• Experience building and growing a profitable Financial Lines business; disciplined underwriting.
• Experience in a start-up environment or developing new business and/or products; advantage.
• Excellent networking skills and relationships with clients and brokers in Germany/Austria.
• In-depth knowledge of the German and European Financial Lines markets.
• Strong product knowledge and underwriting experience in at least two Financial Lines products: D&O, Fidelity Insurance (VSV), EPL, PTL/Trustee, POSI; FI D&O, FIPI, BBB, combined covers, POSI; Professional liability; Cyber.
• Analytical, energetic, creative, adaptable, meticulous, determined, independent, intelligent, disciplined, assertive, proactive, hardworking, resilient, ambitious, team player.
• Strong presentation and negotiation skills; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to contribute, develop and deliver on local business plan and group strategy; independent, innovative and solution-driven.
• Excellent market relationships with a well-established broker and client network.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel; business fluent in German and English.
