About the Role PacifiCorp is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Engineer focused on Optical Transport Networks to design, test, and integrate telecommunications and network systems in support of reliable electrical system operations. The role emphasizes technical leadership, cross‑functional collaboration, and the delivery of safe, high‑quality communications infrastructure for grid operations. What You'll Do
- Provide functional leadership and technical expertise for the engineering team with a focus on Optical Transport Networks.
- Act as a subject matter expert, support needs of other business units, and deliver solutions for core and strategic initiatives.
- Complete detailed design, scoping, and estimating for highly complex telecom projects.
- Promote safe work practices and discuss safety issues with technicians.
- Consult with users to determine system requirements.
- Evaluate requests for feasibility, cost, and timeframes.
- Develop and maintain relationships with hardware, software, carrier, consulting, and employee resource vendors to ensure systems are adequately supported.
- Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, telecommunications transport systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience; typically six years of related progressive experience without a bachelor’s degree.
- Six to eight years of related experience, including one year in a technical leadership role.
- Working knowledge of voice, data, radio and microwave communications systems.
- Expert level knowledge of telecommunications systems including Trunking, Circuit Design, Synchronous Optical Networking, Multiplexing, T1, Microwave Radio.
- Expert level knowledge of Ciena 6500 and 3900 series hardware.
- Expert level understanding of ITU G.709, G.8032, G.8262, and IEEE 802.3 network standards.
- Knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors; understanding of Electrical Utility operations.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Project management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks concurrently. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $117,400 - $161,370 per year.
- Eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus up to 15% of salary.
