About this role

About the Role Columbia Technology Ventures is seeking a Senior Technology Licensing Officer (TLO) for life sciences and biomedical engineering. The Senior TLO will work closely with Columbia researchers to evaluate IP, guide patent and licensing strategies, and drive commercialization, reporting directly to CTV’s Senior Director, Commercialization & Licensing.

What You'll Do

  • Technology Evaluation and Development: develop relationships within the Columbia research community to identify IP, evaluate patentability and licensing potential; work directly with principal investigators, patent counsel, and other parties to develop commercialization and patent prosecution strategies to protect the IP; recommend projects for further investment from the CTV validation fund, as appropriate.
  • Strategic Outreach and Marketing: with the broader CTV licensing team, implement marketing and market research activities; identify potential licensees and industrial research partners; develop and execute commercialization strategies.
  • Deal Execution: take full responsibility for negotiation and execution of sponsored research agreements and licensing agreements with industry partners and university startups related to their technology portfolio, with input and supervision from the CTV Senior Director, Commercialization & Licensing.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree and an advanced degree required; 10+ years related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Strong experience in technology management/licensing/marketing, venture capital, and/or business development; negotiation.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including strong oral and written communication.
  • Comfort with intellectual property and related business practices.
  • A collaborative team player with a sense of humor and a calm demeanor.
  • Highly organized, with ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and drive them to completion.

Nice to Have

  • Strongly preferred: experience in technology management/licensing/marketing, venture capital, and/or business development; negotiation.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: USD 175,000 - 190,000 per year.
  • The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
