About this role
About the Role Senior Supplier Development Engineer, Mechanical Metrology will own end-to-end supplier strategies for precision mechanical components within the Starlink User Terminal BOM. This role focuses on metrology strategy, AI-enabled measurement systems, and leading cross-functional teams to enable high-volume manufacturing with robust measurement performance.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end supplier development for mechanical metrology and high-precision components within the Starlink User Terminal BOM, including supplier selection, NPI, qualification, production ramp, and reactive quality support.
- Engage early with suppliers on selection, equipment choices, and process engineering to ensure material and process corners are fully characterized.
- Provide technical guidance on GD&T, datum schemes, PC-DMIS programming, surface texture standards, and measurement system analysis; drive adoption of AI-powered metrology solutions.
- Design, develop, and qualify precision measurement fixtures; optimize datum schemes; conduct repeatability studies; ensure measurement system stability and accuracy.
- Assess supplier capabilities (capacity, process windows, GR&R, uncertainty budgets) and scalability for high-volume production.
- Indirectly manage internal metrology lab activities and technicians; set direction and ensure adherence to standards.
- Lead AI/ML initiatives for metrology, including automated vision inspection, predictive analytics on trends, anomaly detection, and intelligent data interpretation.
- Lead PPAP, FAI, GR&R studies, and production ramp activities to enable full-rate manufacturing.
- Develop qualification plans covering dimensional validation, surface finish, CMM/OMM correlation, and environmental stability testing.
- Drive supplier performance using Lean methods, scorecards, audits, and systematic problem solving.
- Provide reactive quality support for containment, RCA, and corrective actions on measurement escapes and non-conformances.
- Ensure on-time delivery of qualification and ramp activities; monitor field performance and feed lessons learned back to design and process teams.
- Deliver clear engineering inferences and trend analyses from metrology results to internal customers.
