About the team

We are seeking an experienced Investigator with supervisory expertise to lead and manage a team of Trust & Safety Investigators. This role involves overseeing a team responsible for investigating a range of risk events and providing essential Trust & Safety support to the Turo community.

A key function of this team is serving as the direct liaison with law enforcement and other governmental authorities. You will support the team in responding to critical incidents, law enforcement requests, subpoenas, search warrants, vehicle crimes, fraud cases, and other requests assigned by leadership.

You will have the opportunity to learn and grow with our diverse and talented team while playing a key role in the success of the business. The ideal candidate has superb judgment, leads with empathy, and has a keen eye for detail. You will report to our Trust & Safety Manager.

This position requires working from our dedicated Phoenix office and is not eligible for remote work.

What you will do

• Lead and manage a team of Trust & Safety Investigators responsible for conducting thorough investigations into vehicle crimes, critical incidents, and other platform risks.
• Provide active case management support, investigative guidance, and oversight to ensure investigative excellence and timely case resolution.
• Assist in hiring, onboarding, and training new team members while providing ongoing coaching and development to both junior and experienced investigators.
• Assess team capabilities, establish performance expectations, and coach individuals toward achieving performance goals and mastering advanced investigative techniques.
• Review investigative reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental standards and data privacy regulations.
• Develop and implement investigative strategies and workflows to improve accuracy, reduce bottlenecks, and increase operational efficiency.
• Identify trends and patterns related to auto theft and other platform risks and communicate findings to Trust & Safety leadership.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve operational challenges and improve investigative processes.
• Serve as a point of contact for law enforcement agencies and external partners to gather evidence, support criminal investigations, and assist with asset recovery.
• Lead projects from inception to completion while maintaining team alignment, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction.
• Foster a positive team culture by recognizing strong performance, encouraging collaboration, and empowering investigators to continuously improve.
• Provide leadership and investigative support during critical incidents, including occasional weekends and holidays as needed.

Your profile

• 2+ years of experience supervising or managing high-performing teams, with a proven ability to coach and develop both junior and senior contributors.
• 4+ years of experience in an operational or investigative role, preferably within Trust & Safety, risk management, or a related field.
• Strong investigative skills with the ability to analyze complex information, identify patterns, and translate findings into actionable insights.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and engage with external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate employees, manage performance, and build a collaborative team environment.
• Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
• High proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and investigative tools.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities, processes, and operational needs may change quickly.
• Strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
• High level of integrity, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and commitment to protecting Turo's community and brand.
• Willingness to work occasional weekends and holidays to support 24/7 operations and investigations.
• Demonstrates Turo's operating principles through work product and day-to-day team interactions.

Bonus if you have

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Previous Trust & Safety experience within a peer-to-peer marketplace or car sharing industry.
• Familiarity with advanced investigative and skip tracing tools such as TransUnion TLOxp or LexisNexis Accurint.
• Professional certifications related to investigations or fraud, such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or equivalent.
• Experience working directly with law enforcement agencies on asset recovery or criminal investigations.

For this role, the target base salary range in Phoenix is $73,000 - $83,000 annually. This role is also eligible for equity and benefits. In general, our ranges reflect the market-based target for new hire salaries based on the level and location of the role. Within the range, individual pay is determined by objective factors assessed during the application and interview process, such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
