About the Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Delta DML backend team. You will design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems that power Databricks workspaces, delivering high QPS, low latency, and scalable performance. You will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.

What You'll Do

• Design, implement, and maintain backend services powering workspace assets and data workflows.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers; contribute to better coding practices and system designs.
• Optimize performance on large production clusters; measure and debug low-latency requirements; proactively address production issues.
• Plan and lead complex technical projects that involve multiple teams; influence product roadmap and architecture.
• Improve operability and automation of services (observability, metrics, tooling).

What We're Looking For

• 15+ years of industry experience building and supporting large-scale distributed systems.
• Comfortable working toward a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables.
• Motivated by delivering customer value and impact.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases.
• Experience driving company initiatives toward customer satisfaction.
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related majors, or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Delta Lake, open source formats like Iceberg, and contributions to related projects.
• Experience with performance instrumentation, debugging, and root cause analysis on production systems.
• Leadership experience, mentoring others, leading sprint planning, and cross-team coordination.
