About the Role Databricks is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to own the direction of a major product or infrastructure area within the engineering organization. This executive individual contributor will drive development to scalable solutions with clear business impact, mentor engineers, and lead high-impact initiatives across teams.

What You'll Do

• Own product/infrastructure direction in a major area, from development to scalable solutions with business impact.
• Elevate stability, reliability, and processes; contribute to architecture, roadmap, and de-risk complex problems.
• Mentor senior engineers, contribute to recruiting, and lead high-impact company projects.
• Solve real business needs at scale by applying software engineering; deliver a highly scalable, available, and fault-tolerant engine processing hundreds of TB of data daily across thousands of customers.
• Perform low-level systems debugging, performance measurement & optimization on large production clusters.
• Plan and lead complicated technical projects that involve several teams; influence product roadmap and own new initiatives.
• Be a strong influencer/driver in the organization’s roadmap and direction.
• Lead a Technical Leadership Group or similar review committee, or initiate and sustain an org/eng-wide initiative driven by engineering needs.
• Break down complex problems quickly into potential solutions, knowns, and unknowns, and de-risk through prototyping/validation.
• Contribute as a Technical Team Lead by mentoring others, leading sprint planning, delegating work, and participating in project planning.

• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases.
• Experience driving company initiatives towards customer satisfaction.
