About the Role Databricks is hiring a Senior Staff Software Engineer for its Engineering team reporting to an Engineering Leader. You will own the product or infrastructure direction in a major area, drive it from initial development to scalable solutions, and influence stability, reliability, and organizational processes. You will mentor senior engineers, contribute to recruiting, and lead high-impact company projects, often tackling complex problems beyond your comfort zone.

What You'll Do

• Lead architecture design, influence product roadmap, and own new projects with end-to-end ownership of large-scale systems.
• Build a highly scalable, available, and fault-tolerant engine processing hundreds of TB of data daily across thousands of customers.
• Debug low-level systems, measure performance, and optimize on large production clusters.
• Plan and lead complicated technical projects across multiple teams; drive roadmap and initiatives and sustain org-wide engineering efforts.
• Contribute as a Technical Team Lead by mentoring others, leading sprint planning, delegating work, and participating in project planning.
• Break down complex problems into potential solutions, de-risk via prototyping/validation, and communicate knowns/unknowns.
• Mentor engineers, contribute to recruiting, and help prevent and investigate production issues.

• 15+ years of industry experience building and supporting large-scale distributed systems.
• Comfortable working towards a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables.
• Motivated by delivering customer value and impact.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real-world use cases.
• Experience driving company initiatives toward customer satisfaction.
