Job title: Senior Staff Engineer - Validation
About the Role Senior Staff Engineer - Validation leads IP characterization/validation, defines characterization plans, and drives pre/post validation activities based on customer and designer requests. You will liaison between AE and validation teams and oversee local lab activities, working with R&D, Field Engineering, and Product Marketing to develop and benchmark design tools and maintain our design flow.
What You'll Do
- Lead and perform IP characterization/validation; develop characterization plan; provide pre/post validation activity; act as liaison between AE and validation team; support and manage local lab activities.
- Validate/characterize key Analog and DSP-based SerDes blocks: PLL, Equalizer, high performance ADC, Serializer, DAC and Driver.
- Define measurement methodology for IP parameters per IP datasheet; close gaps between simulation and silicon measurements.
- Collaborate with firmware engineers and block designers to optimize control settings, calibration sequences, and methodologies.
- Work with system validation and application engineers to optimize system performance and robustness.
- Coordinate with HW design engineers to meet signal integrity requirements and board features that support IP characterization and debugging.
- Assist development teams during bring-up phases.
- Provide device-specific application engineering support to customers and FAEs; educate, debug issues, and solve problems; architect demo kits.
- Author GUI, application notes, user guides, articles, design ideas, and evaluation kit manuscripts for internal/external publication.
What We're Looking For
- BSEE/MSEE or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering; 10+ years of silicon validation/characterization experience.
- Hands-on experience with high-speed, multi-lane, multi-standard SERDES (including testing of high-speed ADC, PLL, DAC, Driver).
- Understanding of IP and analog/digital block KPIs; ability to define and execute test platforms and validation plans.
- Experience with PCI-Express, 10GBASE-KR/SR/MR/ER/LR, 25-50-100-200GBASEKR/CR, CPRI, CEI-56G.
- Effective communication and presentation skills; experience with international cross-functional teams.
- Experience in software control of lab equipment (C++, Perl, Python) is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of lab equipment (Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, BERTs, VNA; GPIB/488 automation).
- Fundamentals of communication, transmission lines, EM, and microwave theory.
- Attitude to interact with remote teams; SI data interpretation experience.
- ADS/Matlab or similar tools for SerDes modeling is a plus; electro-optical systems or analog circuitry experience are pluses.
