About the Role Senior Software Engineering Manager leading a team of approximately 8 software engineers in Motorola Solutions' International Mobile Applications Pronto team, focused on UK police mobile apps. You will grow, empower, and align the team with business objectives while delivering high-quality, scalable software and maintaining a healthy engineering culture. What You'll Do
- Mentor and coach engineers at all levels, conduct performance reviews, and support career progression.
- Own delivery: partner with Product Managers to define roadmaps, manage sprints, and remove blockers to ship features.
- Contribute to technical strategy: participate in design reviews and ensure scalable architectural decisions.
- Actively participate in hiring and recruiting to scale the team with diverse, high-caliber talent.
- Foster psychological safety, continuous learning, and blameless post-mortems. What We're Looking For
- Emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate difficult conversations.
- Technical depth to discuss software design, architecture, complexity, and microservices.
- Operational excellence with Agile/Scrum and data-driven approaches to team velocity and health.
- 7+ years of commercial software engineering; full-stack experience; strong communication.
- Experience with Java and/or Kotlin; Spring Boot; REST APIs; SQL (MSSQL); frontend frameworks (Vue, Angular, React) and HTML/CSS; AndroidX, Compose, Room; Gradle; CI/CD with GitHub Actions; XML processing (XSLT, Saxon, JAXB).
- Nice to have: distributed event streaming (Azure Event Hubs, Apache Kafka); OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect/JWT; Kotlin multiplatform; GWT. Nice to Have
- Experience leading and managing software development teams.
- Previous working experience in an Agile environment (Scrum).
- Java and/or Kotlin; Struts and Spring Boot;
