Senior Software Engineer

Role overview

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with Node.js, TypeScript, Integration, and SaaS Platform Experience for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in LATAM. Our client is a developer of a planning platform that links prospective community college students with universities.

You'll help our product and engineering teams. This is a hands-on role where you’ll design, build, and scale the systems that power student–university interactions. You’ll support critical APIs and services that enable real-time data, automation, and integrations — and you’ll have the chance to help us shape product direction at a foundational stage.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering, ideally in SaaS, EdTech, or high-growth startup environments.

• Strong proficiency in Node.js, with the ability to learn and adapt to TypeScript/Express, Python/FastAPI, and other modern technology stacks.

• Experience designing, building, and scaling RESTful APIs; experience with GraphQL is a plus.

• Experience working with databases such as PostgreSQL, Redis, and NoSQL databases, with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.

• Experience working in cloud-native environments; GCP preferred, with AWS or Azure also considered.

• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.

• Experience building automation, configuration-driven systems, ETL processes, and data ingestion workflows.

• Strong understanding of security best practices, including OAuth 2.0/OIDC, role-based and policy-based access control, and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 and FERPA.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability tools such as Datadog, OpenTelemetry, and Sentry.

• Experience designing distributed systems and microservices, with the ability to balance architectural complexity and simplicity.

• Ability to work independently and effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, including 0-to-1 product development.

• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with a willingness to share knowledge and provide constructive feedback.

• Experience integrating AI/ML technologies, including OpenAI, Hugging Face, or vector search solutions such as FAISS or pgvector.

• Experience using AI-powered tools to improve developer productivity.

• Experience with GraphQL.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend services, APIs, and system integrations.

• Improve the reliability, performance, and security of distributed systems.

• Automate onboarding and workflows by developing ingestion jobs and database-driven configurations.

• Collaborate with Product, Frontend, and Data teams to design and deliver impactful features.

• Support Solutions Engineering and Customer Success teams in ensuring seamless school deployments.

• Contribute to system design discussions and technical decision-making.

• Promote best practices in testing, code quality, and CI/CD automation.

• Identify bottlenecks and scale systems to support high-volume data and transactions.

• Evaluate and adopt emerging frameworks, cloud technologies, and AI-driven tools to support continuous innovation.
