Job title: Senior Software Engineer
About the Role Petco is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help deliver long-term business value to customers through thoughtful software and system design. You will own the development of functional areas/features, drive architecture and solution delivery, and collaborate with business partners to translate complex problems into actionable outcomes. You should have a broad understanding across business domains and be able to operate with minimal guidance to realize the final goals.
What You'll Do
- Has a long term vision in terms of business value to the customer and can understand and drive the problems that must be solved for the final goal to be realized.
- Possesses a strong understanding of concepts and tools, knows how to apply them, and drives adoption of concepts and tools.
- Owns functional area/feature development/implementation, design, solution, architecture, etc.
- Able to take on the most complex tasks and problem solving efforts.
- Maintains deep understanding across business domains and thinks in terms of the whole business.
- Has system and business domain oversight; IDs, collects, and analyzes data and can map it to user needs.
- Conducts software and hardware requirements reviews, preliminary and critical design reviews, and software acceptance reviews.
- Ensures objectives are met by evaluating ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consults with business partners, managers, coworkers, or other key stakeholders; solicits, evaluates, and applies suggestions for improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Key distinction of job level: works independently and provides guidance; people seek answers from you.
- Type of supervision: Will operate with minimal instruction.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 5-8 years of experience.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply concepts/tools to real-world problems.
- Full understanding of concepts and tools and the ability to apply them.
- Ability to express written and verbal thoughts clearly to others in a technical field.
- Experience contributing to immediate outcomes and driving results.
