About this role
A senior software engineer role within Microsoft’s CoreAI team, focusing on the Experimentation Platform (ExP). This position centers on enabling trustworthy, high-scale online experimentation to accelerate product learning and advance AI capabilities across Microsoft’s AI ecosystem. You will contribute to one of the highest-scale experimentation platforms, building reliable infrastructure that helps engineers and scientists measure impact, validate hypotheses, and safely deploy new AI innovations. The role offers the opportunity to design and build scalable services, strengthen distributed systems, and contribute to engineering and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain clean, reliable, and testable code using best practices and responsible AI-assisted development, escalating blockers early.
- Use AI tools responsibly across the software development lifecycle, reviewing and validating AI-generated changes to ensure correctness and maintainability.
- Collaborate with partner engineering teams, product managers, and experts in privacy, security, and site reliability engineering to understand requirements, apply customer feedback and telemetry, and deliver scalable, reliable, user-centric features.
- Build extensible, maintainable services and features with strong diagnosability, reliability, and production readiness.
- Participate in on-call rotations, troubleshoot live-site issues using least-privileged access, and improve tooling, telemetry, and fixes to reduce future incidents.
- Contribute to engineering and operational excellence through automation, tooling, documentation, and process improvements.
Requirements
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 2+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud background check at hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 3+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience, or equivalent.
- Preferred: Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), building and maintaining distributed systems, including deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting production workloads.
- Preferred: Experience using observability tools (logging, metrics, tracing) to diagnose service issues and improve system reliability.
- Preferred: Experience with experimentation platforms, A/B testing at scale, and statistical methodologies for measuring product impact and guiding data-informed deployment decisions.
- Preferred: Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows or responsible use of AI coding tools.
