About the Role Databricks is building a Lakehouse-style platform that unifies data warehousing and advanced analytics. You will join the team responsible for next-generation, decoupled query engines and structured storage systems that aim to outperform traditional warehouses while supporting workloads from ETL to data science. You may work in one or more areas including query compilation and optimization, distributed query execution and scheduling, vectorized execution, data security, resource management, transaction coordination, efficient storage structures (encodings, indexes), and automatic physical data optimization.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement next-generation query engine components (query compilation and optimization, distributed execution and scheduling, vectorized execution) and robust storage systems.
- Develop efficient storage structures (encodings, indexes) and automatic physical data optimization to improve performance.
- Address data security, resource management, and transaction coordination in cloud-scale deployments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver incremental value aligned with a multi-year vision.
- Contribute to performance, reliability, and scalability improvements to outperform specialized data warehouses.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of experience working in a related system (preferred)
- Passion for database systems, storage systems, distributed systems, language design, or performance optimization
- Experience delivering a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables
- Motivated by delivering customer value and impact
Nice to Have
- PhD in databases or distributed systems (optional)
Compensation & Benefits
- Local Pay Range: $192,000—$260,000 USD
- The total compensation package may include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits listed on the company page. You are trained on data up to October 2023.
