Job title: Senior Software Engineer - Database & Storage Systems
About the Role Join Databricks to help design the next-generation, decoupled query engine and storage system that powers Lakehouse platforms. You will contribute across areas including query compilation and optimization, distributed execution, vectorized processing, data security, resource management, and automatic physical data optimization to advance the platform. This is a multi-year effort requiring collaboration with product and engineering teams to deliver incremental features toward a long-term vision.
What You'll Do
- Drive requirements clarity and design decisions for ambiguous problems
- Produce technical design documents and project plans
- Develop new features
- Mentor more junior engineers
- Test and rollout to production, monitoring
What We're Looking For
- 7+ years of experience working in a related system
- A passion for database systems, storage systems, distributed systems, language design, or performance optimization
- Comfortable working towards a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables
- Be customer-oriented and focused on having an impact
Nice to Have
- PhD in databases or distributed systems (optional)
