About the Role Databricks is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work on the next generation database engine internals in San Francisco. You will help design and implement a decoupled query engine and storage systems to support a Lakehouse architecture that unifies data warehousing and analytics.
What You'll Do
- Contribute to query compilation and optimization and build distributed query execution and scheduling components
- Develop vectorized execution engine and efficient storage structures (encodings, indexes)
- Implement data security features and resource management
- Coordinate transactions and optimize automatic physical data optimization
- Collaborate across teams to deliver incremental milestones toward a multi-year vision
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience working in a related system (preferred)
- Passion for database systems, storage systems, distributed systems, language design, or performance optimization
- Experience delivering customer value and impact through incremental deliverables
Nice to Have
- Optional: PhD in databases or distributed systems
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $166,000 — $225,000 USD per year
- Benefits include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and listed company benefits
- Local pay range referenced; final compensation based on skills, experience, and location
