About the Role Databricks seeks a Senior Software Engineer to help design and implement the next generation database engine internals, including query compilation and optimization, distributed execution, vectorized execution, and automatic physical data optimization, to support the Lakehouse architecture in Mountain View, CA.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement next-gen query engine and structured storage system that can outperform traditional data warehouses while integrating with Spark
- Work on query compilation and optimization, distributed query execution and scheduling, and vectorized execution engine
- Build data security features, resource management, transaction coordination, and efficient storage structures (encodings, indexes)
- Implement automatic physical data optimization and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver customer value
What We're Looking For
- A passion for database systems, storage systems, distributed systems, language design, or performance optimization
- 5+ years of experience in a related system (preferred)
- Experience working towards a multi-year vision with incremental deliverables
- Motivated by delivering customer value and impact
- Optional: PhD in databases or distributed systems
Compensation & Benefits
- Local pay range: $166,000—$225,000 USD per year
- Total compensation may include annual performance bonus, equity, and standard Databricks benefits
