About the Role Canonical is seeking a senior software engineer to lead an initiative to simplify and automate the configuration and build of the Ubuntu Linux kernel, making it easier to distribute to clients with specific system needs. This role is home-based within the Europe, Middle East, or Africa (EMEA) region and requires strong leadership, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to drive the project from concept to delivery. While prior Linux kernel internals experience is not required, a deep understanding of the build system and advanced Git usage and kernel patching are essential.
What You'll Do
- Lead the design and implementation of an advanced automated Linux build control system.
- Work closely with other engineering teams to deploy the solution seamlessly into the Canonical ecosystem.
- Take charge of the implementation from concept through delivery with strong leadership and strict adherence to project schedules.
- Ensure the build process can be easily distributed to clients with tailored system needs.
What We're Looking For
- A senior software engineer with broad experience across the software stack and a track record of guiding new initiatives.
- Deep grasp of the build system beyond simply invoking make; hands-on experience with automation and tooling.
- Advanced Git usage and kernel patching experience.
- Ability to lead and deliver, with tenacious attention to detail and adherence to schedules.
- Location: Remote in the Europe, Middle East, or Africa (EMEA) region.
Nice to Have
- Kernel internals development experience is highly regarded, though not required.
