Job title: Senior Software Engineer - Backend
About the Role Databricks is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Backend to join our Vancouver R&D site. This role will contribute to building and scaling backend services for the Databricks data and AI platform, collaborating across teams to deliver customer value.
What You'll Do
- Develop, maintain, and scale backend services for the Databricks platform.
- Design and implement large-scale distributed systems and cloud-native components.
- Collaborate with product, data, and security teams to deliver reliable, secure software.
- Work with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container ecosystems (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Improve performance, reliability, and security of services, and participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation.
What We're Looking For
- BS (or higher) in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of production-level experience in Java, Scala, or C++.
- Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures.
- Experience developing large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience working on a SaaS platform or with Service-Oriented Architectures.
- Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP), Docker, or Kubernetes.
- Experience with security and systems that handle sensitive data.
- Good knowledge of SQL.
Nice to Have
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architectures and platform-level features.
- Experience with Kubernetes, networking, or other low-level platform components.
- Familiarity with data governance or Unity Catalog concepts.
Compensation & Benefits
- Canada Pay Range: $146,200—$201,100 CAD
- The total compensation package may include annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above.
