About this role
Job title: Senior Software Engineer - Application Traffic team
About the Role As a Senior Software Engineer on the Application Traffic team, you will design and build the systems that power Databricks’ service-to-service communication across thousands of clusters in a multi-cloud environment. You will also create abstractions that hide networking complexity from product teams, making connectivity, discovery, and reliability seamless by default.
What You'll Do
- Design and build the infrastructure that enables service-to-service communication across thousands of clusters in a multi-cloud environment.
- Build the Ingress Control Plane to program API gateways with static and dynamic endpoints, simplify onboarding, and expose APIs securely across clouds.
- Design scalable service discovery and load balancing mechanisms, providing networking abstractions so product teams don’t need to worry about under-the-hood connectivity.
- Implement overload protection with intelligent rate limiting and admission control to protect critical services and ensure reliability.
What We're Looking For
- BS (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
- Proficiency in one or more languages such as Java, Scala, Go, or C++.
- Experience with service-oriented architectures and large-scale distributed systems.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container/orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).
- Track record of shipping infrastructure that supports mission-critical workloads at scale.
Nice to Have
- Background in service discovery, DNS, load balancing, Envoy, or related networking systems (preferred).
Compensation & Benefits
- Local Pay Range: $166,000—$225,000 USD per year.
- The total compensation may include annual performance bonus, equity, and standard benefits. Benefits vary by region.
- Databricks offers a comprehensive benefits package and a diverse, inclusive culture.
