About this role

About the Role We are seeking a Senior Software Analyst to join Hitachi Rail Canada's Integration, Testing and Validation team in Toronto. The role focuses on ensuring the quality of software delivery for large-scale rail signalling projects, providing technical leadership and mentoring to junior testers, and gaining depth in rail signalling and CBTC systems.

What You'll Do

  • Perform analysis of system, subsystem and software requirements to define validation methods and test cases
  • Develop and maintain test plans, procedures and test cases
  • Prepare test reports and identify root causes of failures
  • Plan and execute integration and testing activities in-house and at project sites
  • Develop test automation
  • Investigate anomalies, prepare defect reports, and assist with defect tracking
  • Contribute to SWAT schedules and budgets and provide progress updates
  • Conduct operational and stress testing
  • Conduct testing in laboratory and desktop simulation environments
  • Communicate test observations and results to engineering staff, supervisors and customers
  • Adhere to company processes and work instructions
  • Acquire product knowledge through training and self-study
  • Plan, organize and supervise testing activities; coach and train junior team members
  • Work independently, prioritizing and delivering on time and on budget
  • Seek improvements to testing methods and processes
  • Promote safety culture and ensure safety is integrated into test strategy

What We're Looking For

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant software testing or development experience
  • Proficiency in C, C++, Perl, or Python
  • Strong planning, organizational and interpersonal communication skills; fluent in English
  • Experience with modern software development methodologies and tools (Agile, SCRUM, DevOps, JIRA)
  • Proficiency with Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice to Have

  • Experience in regulated industries: rail signaling, aerospace, or medical systems
  • Experience with real-time and embedded systems testing
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, wireless (802.11, LTE)
  • Knowledge of rail signaling and CBTC systems

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $91,000 - $117,000 USD per year
