About this role

About the Role We are seeking a Senior Semantic Engineer to design and implement semantic data frameworks that provide a shared structure for enterprise data. In this role you will focus on building and maintaining ontologies and knowledge graphs, enforcing semantic validation rules for data quality, and collaborating with AI teams to integrate these semantic structures into intelligent applications. The position is industry-agnostic, emphasizing strong semantic web expertise and the ability to apply it in any enterprise context.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain ontologies (using OWL/RDF or similar) that model key enterprise data domains and relationships, ensuring a consistent and shared data vocabulary across the organization. Collaborate with domain experts to capture concepts and validate ontology accuracy.
  • Build and manage enterprise knowledge graphs, configure graph databases or triple stores, populate with RDF triples, and optimize for query performance and scalability.
  • Create and optimize SPARQL queries and endpoints to support advanced search and analytics across the knowledge graph.
  • Implement semantic validation rules and data quality checks (SHACL or OWL constraints) and enforce data modeling conventions and business rules for interoperability.
  • Integrate ontology and knowledge graph into the organization’s data infrastructure: pipelines, APIs, and databases, enabling seamless production and consumption of linked data.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including AI/ML and business analysts, communicating semantic concepts to non-technical stakeholders and providing training/documentation as needed.
  • Work with AI agents and LLM teams to leverage the ontology and knowledge graph for intelligent applications, enabling context-aware responses and reasoning over semantic data.
  • Stay current with semantic web standards and best practices; contribute to internal guidelines for semantic data management.

What We're Looking For

  • Ontology Design & Maintenance: design, develop, and maintain ontologies (OWL/RDF).
  • Semantic Web Proficiency: strong knowledge of OWL, RDF, and SPARQL; experience modelling semantics.
  • Knowledge Graph Experience: practical enterprise experience building or maintaining knowledge graphs or linked data systems.
  • Data Modelling & Integration: solid data modelling and integration skills; mapping relational/NoSQL data to ontologies.
  • Programming: proficiency in Python, Java, or similar.

Nice to Have

  • Metadata standards: familiarity with Dublin Core, schema.org, or other ontologies/taxonomies.
  • AI/LLM Integration: experience applying ontologies/knowledge graphs to AI/LLM projects.
  • Enterprise System Integration: experience integrating semantic technologies into existing systems.
  • Tools & Platforms: hands-on experience with ontology and knowledge graph tools.
  • English proficiency (C1 advanced).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary and benefits not disclosed in the listing.
