Senior Scientist, Integrated Computational and Experimental Inflammation Discovery

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will help advance Inflammation discovery programs by leading scientific activities within project teams, generating rigorous experimental and computational evidence, and applying innovative technologies to deepen disease understanding and inform therapeutic hypotheses. Working independently and under minimal direction, you will contribute to target program teams and technology/capability development by iterating between bench experimentation and computational workflows. You will coordinate team efforts, develop subject-matter expertise, and deliver data-driven recommendations that influence project and program direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently design, execute, analyze, and interpret bench/wet-lab experiments that address critical biological questions, test therapeutic hypotheses, and support target identification, validation, and progression.

  • Apply advanced experimental, computational, AI-enabled, and data-analytic approaches to generate mechanistic insight, improve experimental design, and integrate findings across data sources.

  • Develop decision criteria and provide evidence-based recommendations for target and program go/no-go decisions.

  • Lead activities within work groups and project teams, coordinating contributions from multiple disciplines to achieve program objectives.

  • Develop and implement novel scientific approaches, technologies, and workflows that improve efficiency, rigor, translational relevance, and probability of success in discovery programs.

  • Build expertise in small- and large-molecule drug discovery and apply this knowledge to support high-caliber biological research and therapeutic strategy in Inflammation.

  • Proactively develop and optimize solutions to complex scientific or technical problems within area of expertise using ingenuity, creativity, and current scientific knowledge.

  • Coach and provide scientific or technical guidance to colleagues within work groups and project teams, contributing to a connected, inclusive culture of scientific excellence.

  • Organize, interpret, adapt, and communicate project data and scientific recommendations across projects, functions, and internal scientific forums; contribute to external scientific communications where appropriate.

  • Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, patents, technical reports, and other documents that expand organizational knowledge and advance portfolio impact.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree PhD

  • OR

  • PharmD

  • OR MD [and relevant post-doc where applicable]

  • OR

  • Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant scientific experience

  • OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of relevant scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced and proficient understanding of technical principles, theories, and concepts relevant to inflammation, immunology, disease biology, and drug discovery.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal direction, determine methods and procedures for new assignments, and make independent scientific decisions within a work group or function.

  • Experience leading scientific activities within project teams or work groups and contributing to multidisciplinary teams at the functional, departmental, or therapeutic-area level.

  • Strong track record designing, executing, analyzing, and interpreting experimental studies that support target discovery, validation, translational biology, or therapeutic hypothesis testing.

  • Experience applying computational biology, AI-enabled scientific tools, advanced data analytics, multimodal data integration, or predictive modeling to improve discovery research.

  • Ability to proactively develop novel processes, technologies, workflows, or scientific approaches to solve complex problems and improve project outcomes.

  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or providing scientific and technical advice to colleagues within work groups or project teams.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to organize, interpret, adapt, and present scientific or technical information across projects and functions.

  • Contributions to scientific or technical documents such as posters, presentations, publications, regulatory documents, patent applications, technical reports, or internal governance materials.

  • Basic knowledge of related and adjacent disciplinary areas, such as translational science, human genetics, clinical biology, computational biology, protein engineering, small-molecule discovery, or therapeutic development.

  • The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
