Job title: Senior Scientist, Chemical Design & Synthesis (CDS)
About the Role Senior Scientist in Chemical Design & Synthesis (CDS) will be at the forefront of Lubrizol's innovation, leading the design, synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of new small-molecule products. This role supports regional needs and collaborates with global Corporate Technology teams to deliver sustainable solutions across mobility, wellbeing, and daily life.
What You'll Do
- Invent, design, characterize and develop new chemical products and processes across Lubrizol end markets like refrigerant fluids, polyol intermediates, and automotive lubricants
- Refine existing products and processes for better quality or efficiency
- Conduct hands-on laboratory work
- Develop structure–performance relationships
- Perform independent research in a multidisciplinary environment
- Utilize technical knowledge, data, statistical tools, AI, etc. to solve technical challenges
- Develop, validate, and implement analytical methods and SOPs
- Interpret and communicate results to colleagues, sponsors, and customers
- Document experimental results and prepare technical reports and presentations
- Collaborate with global Corporate Technology groups in US and UK
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and good housekeeping practices
What We're Looking For
- Doctoral degree in organic chemistry
- Experience in laboratory synthesis of organic compounds
- Track record of innovative thinking and technical accomplishments
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities, fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese
- Graduate, Post-Doctoral or Industrial experience in synthesis considered a plus
- Project management and budget management expertise is considered a plus
Nice to Have
- Experience with small-molecule synthesis in Lubrizol end markets
- Familiarity with AI, data analytics in research and development
- Prior leadership, mentoring, or collaboration experience in multidisciplinary teams
