Job title: Senior Scientist - Cardiometabolic Disorders
About the Role Join Amgen’s mission to serve patients as a Senior Scientist in Cardiometabolic Disorders. You will ideate, identify therapeutic targets, and drive early drug discovery programs for bone and cardiometabolic diseases, with an emphasis on osteoporosis and metabolic disease. You will perform preclinical biology research, guide in vivo and in vitro studies, and eventually lead a team within a multidisciplinary Cardiometabolic Disorders portfolio.
What You'll Do
- Conceptualize and propose therapeutic targets for bone disease and cardiometabolic disease
- Design and perform in vitro and/or in vivo experiments
- Independently analyze data and interpret results; contribute to mechanistic understanding and rationale for programs
- Conduct bench-based and vivarium studies in vivo and/or in vitro with focus on osteoporosis and metabolic disease
- Demonstrate leadership over time and manage a team of scientists conducting drug discovery research
- Support other new and existing drug discovery programs in the Cardiometabolic Disorders portfolio
- Collaborate across disciplines to advance the best assets in the portfolio
What We're Looking For
- Strong scientific background in biology/pharmacology and drug discovery
- Ability to design mechanistic studies and conduct reproducible in vivo and in vitro pharmacology with high technical proficiency
- Experience validating targets with human genetics and/or clinical studies is a plus
- Critical thinking, ingenuity, excellent communication and integrity; ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
- Leadership potential and ability to manage a team of scientists
- Focus on osteoporosis and metabolic disease; willingness to work at bench/vivarium
