About the Role Senior Rust Software Developer - SMES for L3Harris Integrated Mission Systems. Lead the adoption of Rust across embedded development, guide migration of legacy code, and provide architecture and best-practices for memory-safe Rust in mission-critical systems.
What You'll Do
- Lead the adoption and deployment of Rust across multiple product lines and embedded software contexts.
- Manage integration or conversion of legacy software to Rust and define memory-safe usage patterns.
- Develop best practices, implementation guidance, and translate requirements into maintainable solutions for C5 and Cyber Solution Centers.
- Participate in Scrum team sprints, gather requirements, and work with stakeholders to prioritize tasks.
- Support all software life cycle phases: requirements analysis, design, hardware-software integration, and testing.
- Develop software test plans, perform peer reviews, and work with cross-functional teams to evaluate interfaces and performance.
- Utilize Rust, C/C++, and Python across development activities and documentation.
What We're Looking For
- U.S. citizenship with an active DoD Secret clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related field; minimum 6 years of relevant experience. Graduate degree with 4+ years, or in lieu of a degree, 10+ years of related experience.
- 3+ years of production Rust experience.
- Strong experience with C/C++ and Python.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience developing Rust software for production systems and embedded contexts.
- Experience with embedded systems, device drivers, and Board Support Packages is a plus.
- Familiarity with UML tools (IBM Rhapsody, MagicDraw/Cameo) and software modeling.
- Knowledge of information assurance/cryptography and related certifications (NSA Type 1, DO-178) is a plus.
Nice to Have
- Experience converting C/C++ code to Rust.
- Embedded systems development and real-time constraints.
- Exposure to software modeling and UML tools.
- NSA Type 1 certification or other SW certifications such as DO-178.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $125,000 - $195,000 per year.
