Senior Research Scientist

About the Role ICON is seeking a Senior Research Scientist in Cambridge, MA to contribute to clinical sample testing, assay development, and data analysis within a CLIA/CAP-accredited laboratory. The role requires strong expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS), molecular biology techniques, and clinical NGS assay validation to support translational research and clinical development. What You'll Do

• Perform clinical sample testing, including nucleic acid isolation, quantification and QC, library preparation (manual/ automation), data analysis, and reporting laboratory results as directed.
• Develop, optimize, and validate NGS-based clinical assays.
• Author and maintain technical documentation, including SOPs, validation plans/reports, and workbooks.
• Prepare and deliver technical presentations to internal teams and external clients. What We're Looking For
• PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience in NGS (preferred).
• Experience in oncology, genetics, or infectious disease NGS assay development is highly desirable.
• Strong hands-on expertise in molecular biology techniques.
• Familiarity with laboratory automation systems, bioinformatics tools (e.g. IGV, secondary/tertiary analysis), IVD NGS test development/validation, or programming/AI are preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Nice to Have
• Familiarity with laboratory automation systems.
• Experience with bioinformatics tools (IGV, secondary/tertiary analysis).
• IVD NGS test development/validation experience.
