Senior Research Analyst, Volatility Trading

New York, New York, United States of America

About this role

Senior Research Analyst, Volatility Trading

PEAK6 Capital Management is a proprietary options trading firm that has been defining the industry for more than 25 years. While many firms have come and gone, PEAK6 Capital Management has consistently delivered liquidity to the options market. We thrive due to our firm’s special blend of financial acumen, ability to manage risk, and cutting-edge technology.

Our success is driven by our team of technologists, engineers, and traders who leverage proprietary tech and a data-centric approach to maintain inventory and stay ahead of the markets, so customers can, too.

We are seeking a seasoned, alpha-minded Senior Research Analyst who originates differentiated, high-conviction ideas to join our growing trading desk. CapMan Research excels in combining quantitative and fundamental analysis to inform trading decisions, translating complex qualitative and quantitative information into a full distribution of outcomes around the catalysts and themes that move a name. As a Senior Analyst, you will own your coverage, from idea generation and variant-view research to pitching differentiated ideas directly to portfolio managers and traders and helping structure the trades that express them. This role carries real autonomy across many independent teams rather than a single book, with the room to run risk over time. This role is ideal for a seasoned analyst who wants to express fundamental edge through options/volatility. This role is based out of our New York City office.

You'll be Responsible for:

  • Own your sector coverage end-to-end. Become the desk's go-to expert within your sector, the expectation will be to carry your coverage from thesis formation through the trade lifecycle.
  • Translate fundamentals into a distribution of outcomes, not a price target. Forecast the first, second, and third-order contingent events of a name's price distribution around idiosyncratic, sector, and thematic catalysts. Work with traders to structure the best options expression. Monitor the position through its lifecycle, including post-event review.
  • Pitch differentiated, offensive ideas. Bring creative, non-consensus theses to PMs and traders: articulate what consensus believes, why it's wrong, the catalyst path, and what kills the trade.
  • Do primary work. Management meetings, industry conferences, expert calls, and channel checks, plus turning unstructured and alternative data into tradable signal.

Your Experience

  • Deep sector expertise. 7+ years of proven, accomplished coverage in your space (TMT preferred, flexible).
  • Buy-side, alpha-minded. Prior prop trading, hedge fund, market-maker, or long-short experience strongly preferred; a track record of generating and monetizing differentiated ideas.
  • End-to-end coverage. You have a strong track record of providing research coverage on trades from thesis formation through sizing, structuring, and lifecycle management, not just published research.
  • Strong modeling and quantitative judgment. Financial modeling, valuation, descriptive statistics, and comfort in synthesizing incomplete information.
  • Communication. Clear, concise written and verbal communication; confident in succinctly pitching to PMs and traders; relationship-building as a strength.
  • AI fluency – preferred. Claude Code/multi-agent (or similar) research tooling and data analysis; ability to work with unstructured datasets and contribute to the development of AI-driven research systems.
  • Options experience — preferred. Demonstrated understanding of options pricing and greeks preferred; ability to express a fundamental view with definition of magnitude of move and timing.

Our Rewards

We offer a robust package of employee perks and benefits, including healthcare benefits (medical, dental and vision, EAP), competitive PTO, 401k match, parental leave, and HSA contribution match. We also provide our employees with a paid subscription to the Calm app and offer generous external learning and tuition reimbursement benefits. As a hybrid workforce, we offer our employees the ability to work remotely up to two days a week.

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and office location. This position also may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to a range of health & wellness benefits, enhancing your overall compensation package.

Salary Range $158,620-$198,275
