The Role
StarRez Go is our staff-facing mobile companion to the main platform, used by housing staff to run inspections, check residents in and out, manage maintenance and look up resident information from the field, running on iOS and Android phones and tablets.
You will be the quality owner for the Go app. Your end users are staff on rounds, often on shared devices, using the camera and ID scanning, and handling student data. A failure in the field means a stalled check-in line or a missed inspection, so your quality approach will need to account for the end user
This is a hands-on role; you will not manage people. You will set the quality bar for the mobile team, do the work to hold it, and coach your peers in quality practices so that quality is baked in at every stage. The goal is a team that builds quality in, not a QA who inspects for it.
What You Will Own
Own the end-to-end test strategy for the StarRez Go app

Champion StarRez’s quality standards and advocate for quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
Design and execute validation strategies for feature-related initiatives.
Partner with Product, Design and Engineering from ideation through delivery to ensure acceptance criteria, personas, customer journeys, test data, edge cases, non-functional expectations, and quality gates reflect real user operations and the intended product experience
Decide what is automated, manual and exploratory, and be able to defend each decision.
Own backward compatibility: older app versions remain in the field after a release. Define and test version support.
Apply AI tools and techniques to improve product quality and enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of quality engineering practices and processes.
Required Qualifications
5+ years in software or quality engineering, with a deep focus on quality in complex systems.
Hands-on experience testing native or cross-platform mobile apps on iOS and Android, including tablets.
Experience testing mobile apps used in field or operational settings.
Experience testing APIs and back-end services and the integration between a mobile client and its back end.
Solid understanding of the testing pyramid, and of when UI automation and manual testing are each appropriate.
Experience with cloud device farms or third-party testing platforms, and judgement about when outsourced tooling is the right choice.
Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines and release quality gates, including test suite selection and environment readiness.
Ability to turn customer needs into well-defined user stories, acceptance criteria and risk-based test scenarios.
Practical experience using AI in software development, with sound judgement about where it helps and where it doesn’t.
Genuine curiosity about customer workflows and the business impact of engineering decisions.
Desirable
Understanding of mobile security and data privacy, including device-level access control and handling personal data.
Experience in SaaS, education, or property technology.
Strong root cause analysis across client, API and infrastructure failures.
Experience with mobile release processes: store submission, staged rollout, feature flags.
