Job Title - Senior Quality Assurance Engineer – ExamDeveloper

Summary

As a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer, you are a highly skilled individual contributor recognized as a technical authority for quality within your area. You lead quality engineering strategy and execution for one or more product squads, combining hands-on testing and automation with release-quality accountability and technical guidance for other quality engineers.

You design advanced test strategies that anticipate complex system interactions, integration risks, and failure modes, and you establish an automation-first approach with complete, visible coverage. You are frequently consulted on the most challenging defects, complex integrations, performance and reliability concerns, and critical release decisions. You lead through expertise rather than formal authority — mentoring quality engineers, improving practices, and helping teams make sound quality and release decisions. You partner closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Product Architects, Dev Leads, DevOps, security, accessibility, and vendor teams to protect candidate experience, delivery reliability, and product quality.

The Product

The Senior Quality Assurance Engineer plays a critical role in protecting workflow accuracy, automation reliability, delivery confidence, and product quality as the platform continues to support complex exam-development workflows.

Key responsibilities

  • Quality strategy and test design

  • Lead test strategy and coverage planning for assigned squad initiatives, releases, and platform changes.

  • Design advanced test approaches spanning functional, regression, integration, negative, accessibility, and API coverage.

  • Define quality gates and test readiness criteria for stories, defects, releases, and production-impacting changes.

  • Ensure stories and defects include clear testing evidence, including test cases executed, edge cases considered, environment details, data notes, and traceability where appropriate.

  • Use metrics, defect trends, and production signals to continuously improve the test strategy.

  • Hands-on testing and automation

  • Contribute directly to hands-on testing for high-risk, complex, cross-team, or automation-critical work.

  • Create, improve, and review automated tests across UI, API, integration, and regression coverage.

  • Review regression results, identify failure patterns, and drive resolution of flaky, missing, or outdated tests.

  • Use manual, exploratory, accessibility, usability, or complex workflow testing when automation is not practical or sufficient.

  • Promote automation-first practices and ensure tests are reliably incorporated into regression suites.

  • Quality ownership and collaboration

  • Lead defect triage, retesting, and resolution follow-through, and escalate major quality concerns early.

  • Raise defects with clear reproduction steps, environment details, test data, supporting evidence, and business or user impact where possible.

  • Serve as the technical authority on quality within your domain and inform critical release decisions.

  • Mentor and coach quality engineers in automation, test design, accessibility, and release validation.

  • Provide quality perspective during backlog refinement, design reviews, technical planning, and release readiness.

  • Surface QE capacity, coverage, or dependency risks early when testing scope may affect sprint or release timelines.

  • Required education and experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5+ years of professional quality engineering, software testing, or test automation experience.

  • Demonstrated experience leading quality for complex, distributed, cloud-based, or customer-facing platforms.

  • Strong experience with test strategy, test design, defect management, regression planning, and release validation.

  • Experience providing technical guidance and mentorship within Agile engineering squads.

  • Desired knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Experience with Gauge-style BDD automation, Selenium/WebDriver, C# step implementations, and sustainable web application test automation.

  • Experience maintaining automated test suites that run on virtual machines, with awareness of potential cloud-based testing infrastructure.

  • Experience with relational databases, test data validation, defect investigation, and evidence-based quality review.

  • Experience with SQL, log analysis, telemetry, dashboards, and production issue investigation.

  • Demonstrated technical leadership in Agile quality engineering, including test planning, automation review, and continuous improvement.

  • Willingness and ability to incorporate artificial intelligence technologies into QA responsibly, including validation of AI-assisted outputs.

  • Experience working with offshore teams, vendors, and globally distributed delivery models.

  • Success measures

  • Quality strategy and test design are visible, current, and used by the squad.

  • Stories and defects close with clear, reviewable evidence of testing and coverage.

  • Regression coverage and automation reliability improve; missed scenarios trend down.

  • Achieves near-zero critical defect leakage post-release for owned areas.

  • Quality risks are surfaced early and resolved through clear ownership and follow-through.

  • Improves the capability of the broader quality team through mentorship.

  • Leadership behaviors

  • Customer Centricity Ensures advanced and edge-case scenarios are considered so user-impacting failures are prevented before release.

  • Raise the Performance Bar Pilots new methodologies, strengthens test architecture and automation, and sets a high standard for quality rigor.

  • Exceptional Collaboration for Value Mentors peers, contributes strong input during reviews, and aligns quality priorities across product and engineering.

  • Our Leaders Inspire Provides informal leadership during complex releases, steps up during peak workloads, and models expert problem-solving.
