Senior Python Software Engineer

Your mission

Checkmk helps IT teams monitor their entire infrastructure, from servers and networks to cloud and containers. Here, a feature doesn't end at the screen. People work with our product through its UI and its APIs, and AI assistants are quickly becoming just as important. If you like thinking about a feature through from the API to the screen to what an agent can do with it, this role is for you.

As a Senior Python Software Engineer (m/f/d) in one of our development teams, you'll build product features and help shape where Checkmk goes next. Here's what your journey with us could look like:

• Product features: Take features from idea to release across a Python backend with its APIs and a Vue.js/TypeScript frontend, scoping them together with Product Management.
• AI, in the product and in your workflow: Help shape what our AI assistant can do for people who run complex IT environments, and grow it into something they rely on. AI tools like Claude Code are already part of how we build software, and you'll help decide how we use them.
• Evolving the architecture: A product that has grown over many years carries decisions that made sense at the time. Help reshape large parts of the codebase where the product needs it, and plan changes that move it forward step by step without disrupting the customers who depend on it.
• Collaboration: Work closely with UX, QA, Security, Product Management and other development teams. We work in two-week sprints with dailies, retros and sprint planning, and keep improving how we work.

Your profile

• 5+ years of experience in Python
• Experience evolving a large, long-lived codebase
• Experience driving technical decisions and making changes that span teams
• Experience designing web APIs
• Experience with Vue.js, React or TypeScript is a plus
• Good understanding of Linux to navigate and troubleshoot efficiently
• Familiarity with AI coding tools like Claude Code and curiosity about how far they can go
• Experience building LLM-based features, such as agents and their tool integrations, is a plus
• Interest in IT operations or monitoring is a plus
• Interest in working on open-source software
• Business fluent in written and spoken English
