About the Role Senior Project Engineer will be a hands-on engineering role focused on developing quotes, defining customer requirements, and sourcing equipment to Sonoco standards. You will collaborate with Division Engineering and external Mold shops to pursue new opportunities while driving safety, quality, and productivity improvements. What You'll Do
- Work safely in a manufacturing environment following all plant safety procedures.
- Directly collaborate with end-use customers to define and execute on new opportunities, including assisting in part design, design for manufacturing, and DFMEA.
- Specify, purchase, track, and control new equipment purchases (tools, machines, automation).
- Lead a cross-functional team through New Product Launch (NPL).
- Propose and lead continuous improvement projects on the production floor with solid ROI.
- Assist the production floor in daily operations as needed, including mold troubleshooting, repairs, PM, and refurbishments.
- Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
- Implement visual controls and standard work in the department.
- Collaborate with plant and management to improve safety initiatives.
- Be willing to travel domestically and internationally as required.
- Manage high-level CapEx installs; may oversee one large project > $2M or multiple smaller projects, providing support to manufacturing as needed. What We're Looking For
- Hands-on engineer with ability to interface with external customers to define scope and opportunities.
- Experience with part design, design for manufacturing, and DFMEA.
- Ability to specify and source equipment, including tools, machines, and automation.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and capital expenditure projects.
- Strong communication and project management skills, with attention to safety, quality, and productivity.
- Willingness to travel (domestic/international) as needed.
- Knowledge of mold troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and refurbishments.
