About the Role Kitchell seeks an experienced Project Engineer II / Senior Project Engineer to join our Southern California Regional in the City of San Diego and support a long-term career with a leading building company. This role provides CM services in support of the Sr. Project Manager and Owner’s Representative team on an Education Market Sector project under DSA oversight.

What You'll Do

  • Develops full understanding of the scope and interdependence of all contract documents.
  • Observes and records jobsite activity in accordance with required contractual frequency.
  • Manages effective document control mechanisms for the project to ensure that work is performed in accordance with contract documents.
  • Evaluates change order requests including design changes, specifications and drawing releases and reports status.
  • Evaluates submittals of shop drawings, material data and samples and takes appropriate action based upon contract specifications.
  • Reviews and processes as-built drawings to ensure that all changes during the course of construction are recorded.
  • Reviews the project schedule and assists the project manager in the maintenance of it as requested.
  • Manages the request for information process in order to facilitate the timely exchange of information between designer and contractor.
  • Assists the project manager in the maintenance of effective cost control mechanisms for the project.
  • Completes project close out requirements in accordance with contract documents.
  • Coordinates meeting agendas, prepares minutes and follows up on action items.
  • Utilizes safe work practices and follows directives, policies and procedures for assisting and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Maintains effective and professional relationships with owners, architects, engineers and contractors.
  • Executes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture is preferred; 3 to 6 years of related work experience in construction required; prior experience in the California Public Education Market sector is preferred.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of construction and engineering processes and industry practices; understanding of roles and interdependence between contractor, designer, owner, and construction manager; effective verbal and written communication skills; proficient with MS Office; exposure to Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Procore, and BIM tools is strongly preferred; ability to read and comprehend technical drawings and blueprints.
  • License and Certifications: Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Travel: On-site work at the San Diego project site.
  • Work Environment: Office and/or construction environment with exposure to outdoor elements, noise, and variable conditions.
  • Physical Requirements: Regularly sit, stand, walk, and use hands; ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture (preferred).
  • Prior California Public Education Market experience (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Procore, BIM tools (preferred).

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $80,000 - $120,000 per year. This is an onsite position.
