Job title: Senior Program Manager, Workplace Health & Safety – Contractor Safety
About the Role Passionate about safety? Take ownership of contractor safety programs across Amazon's North America Operations. Partner with Procurement, WHS, RME, and external partners like Avetta to develop, implement, and continually improve safety standards for under-the-roof contractors. Own safety-related projects from inception through implementation and lead investigations to ensure continuous learning and improvement.
What You'll Do
- Own and drive safety programs from inception through implementation; write narrative papers for executive leadership audiences as needed.
- Assess contractor high risk operations (e.g., work at heights, hazardous energy, lifting and rigging) and implement strategies to minimize risk.
- Serve as a trusted safety partner to senior regional leaders across North America; align on strategic priorities and track progress against goals.
- Conduct regular site visits to Amazon warehouse locations to observe safety practices, gather frontline feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Utilize insights from site visits to develop and update safety standards, protocols, and training materials.
- Lead comprehensive incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Procurement, Construction, and beyond to scale safe initiatives and embed improvements.
- Monitor safety metrics, analyze trends, and present recommendations to senior leadership on priorities and investment areas.
- A day in the life: start with check-in calls with Procurement and Regional Site WHS leaders, participate in a global project call to finalize a digital safety tool, then analyze leading indicators to identify opportunities for improvement.
What We're Looking For
- 6+ years of program or project management experience.
- Experience owning program strategy, end-to-end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership.
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements.
- 5+ years of increasing responsibilities in EHS or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, safety, environmental, or an equivalent field.
- Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) fluency.
Nice to Have
- Master's degree.
- Knowledge of Excel at an intermediate level (pivot tables, charts, lookups, nested formulas, data cleansing, etc.).
- Experience prioritizing and managing time effectively in dynamic environments.
- Experience solving complex problems quantitatively and developing actionable data-driven business recommendations.
- Experience owning the development and implementation of contractor safety programs.
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Project Management Professional (PMP).
