The Enterprise Data Solutions (EDS) team at Toast is on a mission to deliver a trusted, scalable, and governed data foundation that empowers every team at Toast to make decisions with speed and confidence. As Toast scales and AI becomes central to our product and operational strategy, EDS serves as the engine behind that ambition—building the infrastructure, governance frameworks, and data products every business function depends on.

As a Senior Data Governance Product Manager, you will be the primary operational executor within EDS's governance function. Reporting directly to the Director of Enterprise Data Governance, you will build and run the policies, processes, and programs that make Toast's data trustworthy, compliant, and discoverable every day.

This role is ideal for someone who is equally comfortable running a cross-functional workshop with business stakeholders and configuring metadata standards in a data catalog—combining strategic thinking with a strong bias toward execution.

A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Drive Governance Program Operations: Manage and maintain the Data Domain Model, ensuring clear ownership assignments. Facilitate the Data Governance Council (agendas, action tracking, meeting facilitation), partner with Data Stewards across domains, and track program adoption metrics and maturity KPIs for leadership.

• Execute Policy & Compliance Standards: Support the development, documentation, and roll-out of enterprise data policies. Monitor compliance, coordinate remediation with domain owners, maintain the policy register, and assemble governance documentation for audits and risk reviews.

• Lead Business Glossary & Metadata Management: Own day-to-day operations of Toast's Business Glossary by facilitating definition workshops and certifying terms with domain owners. Partner with the data catalog team to enforce metadata standards, build onboarding guides, and run regular office hours to drive user adoption.

• Advance Data Strategy & Maturity: Support the enterprise data strategy through stakeholder synthesis and executive materials. Coordinate data maturity assessments, synthesize outputs into actionable recommendations, and deliver training programs to raise data literacy across the company.

What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)

• Experience: 5+ years in data governance, data management, or analytics. Proven track record of supporting or implementing governance programs (stewardship models, policy execution, catalog rollouts) and driving adoption in fast-moving, complex environments.

• Familiarity with data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA DMBOK).

• Working knowledge of modern data stack platforms (Snowflake, dbt, cloud data warehouses).

• Hands-on experience with data catalog/metadata management tools (e.g., DataHub, Alation, Atlan).

• Proficiency in SQL for governance reporting and data quality analysis.

• Leadership & Program Management: Exceptional workshop facilitation and consensus-building skills. High degree of organization with a track record of managing multiple workstreams and executing independently.

What will help you stand out (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves):

• Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) certification (or active coursework).
• Hands-on experience with data observability tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Great Expectations).
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, GDPR/CCPA, internal audit) or AI governance/responsible data practices.
• Prior experience in B2B SaaS or restaurant technology.

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
