About this role

Senior Product Design Manager, Buyer Desktop and Mobile Web

What’s the role?

As the Senior Product Design Manager for Buyer Web, you will lead the design strategy and execution for Etsy’s desktop and mobile web experiences. This team crafts how buyers discover, evaluate, and purchase unique items every day — making the shopping journey intuitive, cohesive, and high-performing across platforms.

You’ll guide a team responsible for delivering a consistent, “One Etsy” buyer experience while navigating platform-specific constraints, evolving web architecture, and responsive design systems. This role requires expertise in web UX, systems thinking, and the ability to bring clarity to sophisticated and ambiguous problem spaces as we continue refining Etsy’s core shopping journey.

This is a highly collaborative leadership role reporting into Buyer Design leadership and partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Brand, and Design Systems.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Sr. Director of Product Design, Growth. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

The Buyer Web team focuses on the heart of the customer journey — discovery, evaluation, and purchase on desktop and mobile web. We work at the intersection of craft and performance, ensuring that Etsy’s marketplace feels inspiring, trustworthy, fast, and seamless.

We value clarity, collaboration, and thoughtful execution. Our culture encourages experimentation, continuous learning, and strong cross-functional partnership. We believe phenomenal web experiences balance creativity with rigor — delivering measurable business impact while staying true to Etsy’s human-centered brand.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Lead with Strategy - Define and drive initiative-level design strategies across desktop and mobile web, anticipating platform tradeoffs, technical constraints, and performance considerations while ensuring cohesive buyer experiences.

  • Bring Clarity to Complexity - Navigate evolving architecture, responsive systems, and shifting priorities. Frame ambiguous problem spaces into clear opportunities grounded in user insights and business goals.

  • Grow and Support Your Team - Coach designers through complex initiatives and platform migrations. Develop a high-trust, inclusive environment with clear expectations around quality, accessibility, craft excellence, and performance-oriented design.

  • Champion Craft & Systems Thinking - Partner with Brand and Design Systems to ensure web components are accessible, performant, and scalable across the buyer lifecycle. Drive consistency while enabling innovation.

  • Collaborate Strategically - Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Research leadership to translate technical considerations into actionable design direction and long-term roadmap alignment.

  • Drive Measurable Impact - Use qualitative and quantitative insights to improve buyer confidence, conversion, engagement, and overall marketplace performance.

  • Of course, this is a sample of the kinds of work this role will require. Responsibilities may evolve over time in alignment with business needs and applicable law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • You are a thoughtful design leader who balances craft with strategy, clarity with adaptability, and vision with execution. You thrive in complex environments and are motivated by building web experiences that serve millions of people.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Experience leading the design of large-scale ecommerce or consumer web experiences from discovery through delivery

  • Strong systems thinking and deep expertise in responsive web UX and platform-specific constraints

  • A proven ability to define ambiguous problem spaces and drive evidence-based solutions with measurable outcomes

  • Experience mentoring and developing designers, setting clear performance expectations, and supporting continuous growth

  • A strong understanding of accessibility, performance, and scalable design systems in web environments

  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to align senior stakeholders around tradeoffs and long-term vision
