About this role
A Senior Principal Technical Program Manager is needed to coordinate and drive the delivery of our software portfolio to maximize availability and minimize waste across the supply chain and data center resources within Microsoft Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) and the Cloud Infrastructure Automation and Optimization (CIAO) team. This leadership role defines technical strategy, requirements, and delivery for complex software, and provides algorithmic support for production processes. The role partners with business leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver value, shape the future through emerging ideas and technologies, and drive efficiency, availability, and scale while navigating ambiguity and large-scale change.
Responsibilities
- Analyze customer and business needs
- Build and scale customer experiences across multiple groups, divisions, and stakeholders, both internal and external
- Develop complex problem statements, form hypotheses, and lead experiments to validate solutions across products, services, systems, and infrastructure
- Leverage AI, telemetry, research, and customer insights to identify trends, root causes, dependencies, and opportunities while ensuring the integrity of AI-generated insights
- Drive alignment among customers, stakeholders, leadership, and market needs; influence feature prioritization and cross-divisional improvements
- Define program goals, priorities, and deliverables aligned with organizational strategy across multiple functional areas
- Partner with Engineering, Design, Marketing, Security, and technical architects to design scalable, future-proof solutions and architectures
- Lead risk management practices using data, AI, and automation to identify tradeoffs and support critical decision-making
- Establish success criteria, KPIs, and OKRs with telemetry and measurement frameworks to demonstrate business value and ROI
- Lead end-to-end planning, scheduling, dependency management, and execution of complex cross-functional programs using AI, automation, and workflow optimization
- Drive multi-year roadmaps, resource planning, and delivery strategies while ensuring quality, security, compliance, and Responsible AI standards
- Orchestrate collaboration across internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to achieve alignment and resolve issues; influence leadership decisions
- Oversee release planning, KPI evaluation, testing strategies, quality improvements, and compliance with privacy, accessibility, safety, and legal requirements
- Monitor and analyze performance metrics, customer feedback, telemetry, and operational data to identify insights and drive continuous improvement
- Conduct experiments, validate hypotheses, and implement data-driven actions to improve product performance, customer outcomes, and business impact
- Enhance supportability through root-cause analysis, AI-driven monitoring, documentation, troubleshooting guidance, and live-site improvement initiatives
- Serve as a technical leader and trusted advisor, engaging customers and stakeholders, sharing best practices, mentoring others, and driving adoption across organizations
Requirements
- Required: Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development, or equivalent experience; 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects
- Other requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter; citizenship verification (U.S. citizenship) due to eligibility considerations for government-related work
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree and 15+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development, or equivalent experience; 10+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects; 1+ year of experience reading and/or writing code (e.g., sample documentation, product demos)
