Your Job
Provide senior technical and methodological leadership for mechanical engineering projects, ensuring that custom machines, automated equipment and mechanical assemblies are robust, manufacturable, validated and documented for successful internal build or external outsourcing.
Our Team
The Automation Centre of Excellence brings together mechanical, automation, electrical, controls, manufacturing, process, quality and project-management expertise. You will lead three Mechanical Design Engineers from a technical and project-execution perspective, leveraging their complementary strengths while building consistent engineering practices.
What You Will Do
· Provide technical and methodological leadership to the Mechanical Engineering team, coaching engineers while preserving clear ownership and accountability.
· Define, implement and continuously improve mechanical engineering standards, methods and best practices across projects.
· Contribute to design of complex high precision machines and mechanical groups.
· Lead structured design reviews, challenging assumptions and ensuring that risks, interfaces and critical design decisions are addressed.
· Ensure mechanical designs meet requirements for functionality, manufacturability, reliability, maintainability, tolerancing and assembly.
· Define and oversee design verification and validation so critical requirements are demonstrated before design release.
· Act as the senior escalation point for complex technical decisions, structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
· Ensure projects reach the documentation maturity required for outsourcing, including specifications, drawings, 3D models, interfaces and acceptance criteria.
· Provide the senior technical interface to machine builders, engineering partners and suppliers, reviewing their designs against project requirements.
· Coordinate priorities and technical deliverables across Mechanical, Automation, Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing, Process, Quality and Project Management.
· Drive standardisation, modularity, reuse and continuous improvement using lessons from design, manufacturing, validation, commissioning and field experience.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
· 15+ years of experience in mechanical design and project engineering for automated equipment, special-purpose machinery, tooling and/or electronic products.
· Proven experience in a senior technical role such as Principal Engineer, Lead Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Engineering Manager of small teams.
· Strong knowledge of mechanical design fundamentals, structured design methods, verification, validation and release processes.
· Availability to travel across EMEA and globally.
What Will Put You Ahead
· Ability to lead effective design reviews and assess complex mechanical solutions, technical risks and design assumptions.
· Strong capability in tolerancing, materials, manufacturing processes, assembly, maintainability, reliability and DFMA.
· Experience working with external machine builders, engineering companies and manufacturing suppliers.
· Proven ability to create complete, unambiguous technical specifications and documentation for outsourced engineering and manufacturing.
· Excellent technical communication, mentoring, cross-functional collaboration and decision-making, balancing robustness, cost, timing and complexity.
