Senior Piping Designer

Job Summary

The Senior Piping Designer is responsible for producing, reviewing, and coordinating detailed piping design drawings and models for construction, engineering, maintenance, and industrial projects. The role involves translating engineering requirements into accurate and practical piping designs, coordinating with other disciplines, and ensuring that design deliverables meet applicable standards, project specifications, and construction requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed piping layouts, arrangements, plans, sections, and isometric drawings.

• Prepare and update piping drawings based on engineering specifications, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and project requirements.

• Develop practical piping routes considering accessibility, constructability, maintenance, safety, and space requirements.

• Prepare and maintain piping design models and drawings using appropriate CAD/design software.

• Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, equipment drawings, and other technical documents.

• Review piping designs and drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.

• Coordinate piping designs with mechanical, structural, civil, electrical, instrumentation, and other disciplines.

• Identify and resolve design clashes, discrepancies, and interface issues.

• Participate in design reviews and incorporate approved design changes.

• Prepare or support the preparation of piping material take-offs and other design-related quantities.

• Review relevant supplier/vendor drawings and incorporate applicable information into design deliverables.

• Conduct site surveys and field verification where required.

• Support construction teams by providing technical clarification on piping drawings and design details.

• Prepare and update as-built drawings based on verified site conditions.

• Review the work of junior and intermediate piping designers and provide technical guidance.

• Ensure piping design deliverables are completed accurately and within project schedules.

• Maintain proper drawing revisions and design documentation.

• Required Qualifications

• HND, Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• Relevant technical training or professional certification in piping design is an advantage.

• Demonstrable experience in piping design and drafting for construction, engineering, industrial, infrastructure, manufacturing, or related projects.

• Good knowledge of piping systems, components, fittings, valves, supports, and materials.

• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.

• Proficiency in relevant CAD/design software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AVEVA E3D/PDMS, or equivalent.

• Good understanding of engineering drawing standards and practices.

• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
