Job Summary

The Senior Pharmacist will oversee the effective delivery of pharmaceutical services, ensuring the safe dispensing and management of medications while providing quality pharmaceutical care to patients. The role also involves supervising pharmacy staff, managing inventory, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dispense and review prescriptions accurately and safely.

  • Provide medication counselling and pharmaceutical care to patients.

  • Monitor drug interactions, adverse reactions, and medication-related issues.

  • Manage pharmacy inventory, including procurement, storage, stock control, and expiry monitoring.

  • Supervise, mentor, and support pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and interns.

  • Ensure proper handling and documentation of controlled and restricted medicines.

  • Maintain accurate pharmacy records and prepare routine reports.

  • Collaborate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support effective patient care.

  • Ensure compliance with PCN regulations, hospital policies, SOPs, and professional standards.

  • Promote medication safety and rational use of medicines.

  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

  • Qualifications & Requirements

  • B.Pharm or Pharm.D from a recognised institution.

  • Must be registered with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) and possess a valid practising licence.

  • Minimum of 7 years’ post-qualification experience, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting.

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacotherapy, medication safety, and pharmacy operations.

  • Experience in pharmacy inventory and stock management.

  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is an advantage.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and problem-solving skills.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
